This year marks Megan Policastro’s 30 year anniversary with Neptune Township EMS’ squad Shark River Hills Squad. With an interest in the healthcare industry, Megan joined at 17 hoping to gain experience that can be leveraged into a career in the healthcare field, which she did.
“The connections I made through volunteering at Neptune Township EMS allowed me to get a job in our local hospital as a technician in the ER and trauma departments,” said Megan.
Megan ascended through various positions in the ER, both clinical and management and is now currently a senior operations manager at a healthcare hospital system for their outpatient practices. While she credits Neptune Township EMS for helping her land her dream career, she also credits the organization for helping her become more involved in her community.
“When I joined, I was surprised to see how active we are in the community. We do a lot of community relations, participate in the homecoming parade and work with the local senior center to provide meals during the holiday season. The volunteer experience is extremely rewarding,” said Megan.
Megan has transitioned into an administrative support role in the last few years, but remains an active volunteer. In addition to her career and volunteer duties, Megan has a nine-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. Her son has aspirations of following in his mom’s footsteps and joining Neptune Township EMS as a cadet once he turns 16.
“He has participated in a lot of the community outreach events we host. He wants to potentially do something pre-med for his career. I think the cadet program is a great avenue for kids, allowing them to get that experience that could also help them get on the right path for a future career,” said Megan.
